It was up to my knee. I had to put on my own boots to get to my vehicle. The public defender's office lined up laptop after laptop. They were thinking of what they could do, what they could offer. Seven days later, people like Ruth Gale are still living without power and internet. She said, "It's real hard and dark too because I use candles. County lines trees. So many don't have the means right now to apply for FEMA individual assistance online. We recognize that would be a real challenge for folks who don't have electricity and may not have computers and internet service. But the public defender's office does." The word spread, and they've had a great response. The public defender's office also provided food and air conditioning. Ruth Gale said, "It feels wonderful. I mean, it feels wonderful."
